The "Sound Gate" Project

We are drawn to the Gate.

As we enter it senses us,

Reacting to each individual differently,

Sensing how each stands within the interior light,

It responds with a gentle sigh or the soft intake of a child’s breath.

We feel the impulse to touch its reflective surface.

We see our own image reaching towards us.

It senses our touch and responds with music or the sound of rain.

We are lost in the moment.

And for a time viewer and artwork blend in an embrace of the senses.

Can Steel sigh?
Can it laugh when we touch it?

We live in an age when sculpture can no longer sit by quietly, like the rocks of the fields. We must breathe life into our work if it is to truly serve us.

 

Once I saw a Blue Jay flying across my vision.

It landed in the grass before me. Is this not the most beautiful of sculptures?

One which lives and interacts with the world around it?

Can I make steel sigh, or laugh?

I believe I can.
